Firefighter WCB Benefits

WHEREAS there are 7,200 firefighters in the Province of Saskatchewan, 6,400 of whom are volunteers; and

WHEREAS full time, active members of an urban fire department are automatically covered for cardiac injuries under Saskatchewan Worker’s Compensation Board policies but volunteer firefighters are not; and

WHEREAS volunteer firefighters are just as vital to their communities as are their full time urban counterparts;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Provincial Government to change Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board policies so that all benefits available to full time, active members of urban fire departments are also provided to volunteer firefighters.
