WHEREAS Crown Corporation pay no tax and private utility companies do (i.e. windmills) which creates an unfair advantage; and
WHEREAS SaskPower is moving power lines to rural municipal (RM) road allowances thus using and damaging roads in the process as well as inhibiting or complicating future growth; and
WHEREAS SaskTel currently pays Grants in Lieu and SaskPower does not; and
WHEREAS Saskatchewan has a plan for growth and that growth is an uneven one in the service utility sector; and
WHEREAS the Province as a whole is benefitting on that growth on the backs of a few RMs where these facilities are located; and
WHEREAS Crown Corporations are owned by government but are not government as they run independently and often generate dividends;
BE IT RESOLVED that all Crown Corporations be required to pay tax on all facilities to the rural municipalities (RM) they are situated in, to level the playing field in the utility sector and give fair compensation to those RM’s bearing the brunt of our Province’s growth.
