WHEREAS the cougar population in Southwest Saskatchewan has increased dramatically over the last decade; and

WHEREAS these animals are becoming more habituated as they are moving into farmyards, buildings and stack-yards; and

WHEREAS the cougars have no natural enemies in the area they have no fear of humans and are becoming more bold; and

WHEREAS there are numerous incidents of cougars in towns and farm sites and recently in the Maple Creek area killing farm pets in the yard where children normally play; and

WHEREAS currently in Saskatchewan cougars are a protected species with no hunting allowed with the exception of protecting livestock or property;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Ministry of Environment to allow a hunting season to reduce the cougar population and the pending threat.
