WHEREAS Roundup Ready Canola is becoming an invasive weed problem;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby Monsanto to develop a chemical that can control volunteer Roundup Ready Canola in its later stages.

Response from Cory McArthur, President, Crop Protection, Monsanto Canada Inc.:

Roundup Ready Canola has generated great value for western Canadian growers by offering the benefits of superior weed control and crop safety.  One of the management concerns from growers can be control of volunteers.  Fortunately there are numerous control options available in the market today.  Herbicides containing active ingredients from herbicide groups 2, 4, 6 and 14 are effective and many can be used to preseed to cereal crops and in chemfallow.  Please consult the Provincial Guide to Crop Protection for a complete list of herbicide solutions that can be safely used for the effective control of Roundup Ready canola volunteers prior to cereals or in chemfallow.

Monsanto Canada currently has no plans to develop a chemical to control volunteer Roundup Ready canola since many of our industry partners already have solutions available in the market today.
