Resolution No. 27 – 07M
Claim Adjustment

WHEREAS Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance is associated with rural municipalities and rural municipalities are mostly made up of farmers; and

WHEREAS the industry standard for adjusting claims is 10 to 14 days after a hail claim has been received by any company covering hail insurance;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby Saskatchewan Municipal Hail Insurance (SMHI) to have their hail adjusters adjust hail claims in a timelier manner and in the same time frame as the industry standard.

Response from SMHI

It must first be understood that no industry standard exists in respect to the time frame for which a hail claim is to be adjusted.  It is important to understand that the majority of crops when hailed in the vegetative stage of growth cannot be accurately adjusted in many cases until the damaged crop is fully headed or podded.  It has been the experience of the Association that when adjustments are completed too soon following the occurrence of loss inaccurate adjustments have resulted.  In respect to crops which receive hail damage when fully headed or podded, it is desirable to complete the adjustment as soon as possible following the occurrence of loss.

All this being said, it is and will continue to be the goal of your Association to provide timely adjustments and quality of services.
