Advocacy
Since 1905 SARM has been working to ensure the rural voice is heard by senior levels of government. In 2000 about 1/2 of members contributed funds to hire a federal lobbyist firm who remain today, to be our eyes and ears on federal issues.
Priorities
Although we are continually working on a number of issues on behalf of our members, SARM identifies priority lobby issues depending on what is going on at any given time both provincially and federally.
Committees
SARM has three internal policy committees comprised of board members supported by staff. Most of the policy files that SARM undertakes fall into one of 4 areas: Agriculture, Environment, Infrastructure and Development and Municipal Governance.
Resolutions
Members debate resolutions at SARM's conventions and highlight priority issues for our lobbying activities and policy focus areas.
Submissions
SARM prepares reports, comments, and responses to consultations to both provincial and federal governments to support our advocacy work on hehalf of rural municipal government.
