On November 10th at the SARM Midterm Convention in Regina, Federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Gerry Ritz announced the details of a $50 million Agricultural Innovation Program. It is meant to support the research, development and commercialization of new agriculture products, technologies and processes.
Innovation is what leads to the production of improved seed varieties, more efficient machinery and to the implementation of improved crop and livestock management practices.
“SARM is very pleased to see this funding roll out,” says President David Marit. “Fostering innovation is the only way to ensure our Canadian farmers and agriculture industries stay competitive on a world-wide scale.”
This funding will also stimulate the economy through small business development and expansion, foster new and existing university based research, create jobs, reduce production costs and encourage value added ventures for all sectors of the agriculture industry.
