The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is pleased with today’s announcement from the federal and provincial governments of an injection of $63 million into municipal infrastructure projects in the province.
“I am very pleased to see that thirteen rural municipalities are amoung the forty-six Saskatchewan communities that will see their projects proceed this spring,” said SARM President David Marit.
The funding announced today is in regards to the first intake of applications from municipalities under the Building Canada Fund (BCF). Under the Building Canada Fund the federal and provincial governments provide up to two-thirds of the funding for an approved project with the balance coming from the municipality.
With the federal, provincial and municipal contributions combined, this will mean a total injection of $95 million into much needed municipal infrastructure. It was also announced today that there would be a call for applications for the second round of the BCF Communities Component in the near future.
“Our hats are off to provincial and federal governments for recognizing the serious infrastructure needs of our municipalities,” said Marit. “Municipalities are eager to begin the much needed work”.
