WHEREAS good road gravel is one of the most important needs for rural municipalities (RM); and
WHEREAS there are a number of municipalities that have little to no close supply; and
WHEREAS the private sector has acquired a large amount of the gravel reserves in the province and are not willing to sell to these municipalities at an affordable price; and
WHEREAS the cost to the municipalities delivery of the gravel has become prohibitive;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobbies the Provincial Government to not only restructure the road haul fees to an amount that relates the true cost of road maintenance but also allows for a percentage amount to be added to those road haul fees to be collected and sent to a governing body to develop a pool of funds that can be drawn on by municipalities to help with the costs of gravel delivery.
