SARM Pleased with Province’s Plans for Improved Internet and Cell Coverage
Earlier today Premier Wall announced an investment by the province of $90 million to assist SaskTel improve high speed Internet and to build 50 new cell phone towers in Saskatchewan. The Premier stated that Saskatchewan would have 100 per cent high speed Internet coverage within three years.
“Today’s announcement is very good news for our province, especially those living in remote rural areas,” said David Marit, President of SARM. “The ability to be able to access high speed Internet from anywhere in the province will be a tremendous help to the many people who are now forced to use dial-up access.”
“Home based businesses in remote areas such as the Rural Municipality of Willow Bunch or the Rural Municipality of Hudson Bay will be able to compete on an even basis with their competitors in large urban communities,” said Marit.
“SARM has identified improved Internet and cell phone access as a great need for a long time. Today’s announcement will go a long way in helping achieve our vision of strong, sustainable rural communities,” concluded President Marit
