Road Maintenance Agreement Rates

Year: 2013

Number: POP 2-13A

Department: Saskatchewan Ministry of Government Relations

WHEREAS the current maximum road maintenance and loss of road life rates allowed under The Municipalities Regulations were last revised in 1999; and

WHEREAS the cost of road maintenance and construction has increased dramatically since that time: and

WHEREAS heavy traffic has been increasing dramatically in rural municipalities due to the booming economy; and

WHEREAS municipalities are being left with road damages and reconstruction costs of thousands of dollars over and above the fees being collected;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the provincial government to take immediate action to address the road maintenance agreement inadequacies.

Response from Honourable Jim Reiter, Minister of Government Relations

As many SARM members will be aware, at your annual convention I announced my intention to examine options to increase the legislated road maintenance agreements rates based on inflation since 1999 when these rates were last amended.
