Crop Insurance Review - Clubroot Coverage
Department: Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture
WHEREAS clubroot is a severe risk to agriculture production in Saskatchewan and steps are being taken through various agencies to mitigate this risk and take action after the damage is done;
WHEREAS continuous seeding of crops susceptible to clubroot is known to be a factor in the spread of clubroot;
WHEREAS there are measures that could be taken to discourage this process, such as limiting crop insurance coverage;
BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation to review and clarify coverage policies to encourage farming practices that mitigate the risk of spreading clubroot. These policies may include considering crop rotations known to cause the spread of clubroot uninsurable while continuing to provide coverage for farmers who perform good land management by insuring them for clubroot loss to act as a safeguard from those who put the farming community at risk.
