Beaver Problems on Fish and Wildlife Development Fund Lands

Year: 2019

Number: 8-19M

Department: Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment

Midterm: Yes

WHEREAS the higher than normal beaver populations in and around Fish and Wildlife Development Fund (FWDF) lands are affecting roadways within rural municipalities;

WHEREAS the FWDF lands are only accessible to trappers by foot and the population of beavers on these lands is very difficult to manage;

WHEREAS in the past the government body in charge of the FWDF land has issued permits to allow trappers to trap and retrieve beavers with the use of All Terrain Vehicles;

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM lobby the Ministry of Environment to change their policies to allow trappers to access the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund lands by way of issuing a permit to use All Terrain Vehicles to trap and retrieve beavers.
