SARM Visits Fire Damaged Southwest Saskatchewan
Today, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities’ (SARM) President Ray Orb, Division 6 Director Rod Wiens, and Division 3 Director Larry Grant will meet with and tour the rural municipalities that were affected by the wildfires that occurred just two weeks ago in southwest Saskatchewan. SARM recognizes the importance of the agriculture industry in Saskatchewan and the long term impacts this type of devastation can have on the well being of our communities. SARM representatives will be meeting with the RMs of Deer Forks No. 232, Enterprise No. 142, Fox Valley No. 171, Happyland No. 231 and Chesterfield No. 261.

“SARM understands the tremendous loss experienced by folks in the southwest and is proud to see community come together to support each other in a time of need” stated President Orb.

The wild grass fires that broke out during the October 17 wind storm destroyed more that 30,000 hectares near the town of Burstall and about 4,000 hectares near Tompkins. Agricultural producers lost hundreds of cattle, tonnes of feed, miles of fences and other infrastructure. With information from local producers and veterinarians, the Ministry of Agriculture has estimated that 770 cattle were lost.

SARM is the independent association that represents rural municipal government in Saskatchewan, and is committed to working in the best interest of its members.
