News Release: Working Together to Strengthen our Communities
For Immediate Release April 3, 2017
Working Together to Strengthen our Communities
The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is a not-for-profit association that represents the 296 rural municipal (RM) governments in Saskatchewan. Since 1905, SARM has worked on behalf RMs to help ensure the vibrancy of our rural communities which in turn means the health and welfare of all people who choose to live in rural Saskatchewan.
Regardless of the imaginary boundaries that we live within, we interact with each other daily, shop together, have children in school with one another, rely on each other for safety, and work together to build sustainable and prosperous communities. “Knowing this means that we owe it to all of our people to talk to one another, lend a hand when its needed, and work together to meet our common goals”, said SARM President Ray Orb.
Relationships between each other continue to strengthen because of such shared interests. Given the tensions experienced with the tragic circumstances last summer and the court proceedings scheduled for April 3, 2017 we encourage respectful interactions. “We as an organization strongly condemn aggressive or hurtful behavior. We must respect the court process,” said President Orb.
RMs, urban municipalities, and First Nations are interconnected in many ways due to their proximity to one another and the relationships that have been built amongst the people in an area. Honest and thoughtful communication is key to building and re-building relationships necessary so that we may work together for the betterment of all our people. “We must all share with our residents and foster the common goal of peace and cooperation,” said Orb. All parties will need to join the efforts if we are to build the mutual trust necessary to keep our communities inclusive and safe.
“We must not forget that Saskatchewan people have always been known to lend a hand and help each other in times of need. Let’s build on that spirit and truly unify to best serve our people,” concluded President Orb.
